I am wondering about a situation that occured this week. I was quite ill (horrible cold, sneezing, puffy eyes, nazel congestion, weezing in my chest, etc.) on Wed, and called in sick to work. Thursday I came in to work - still feeling ill but needed to be there for at least 4 hours to be paid the holiday (good Friday) so I emailed my "team leader" that I was planning on leaving @ noon b/c I was not feeling any better. She emailed me back telling me that next time I needed to ASK her for permission to leave as opposed to telling her that I was going to be leaving!!
I was quite outraged by this email. I did not think that I needed PERMISSION to leave if I was clearly sick!!! Her supervisor had suggested to me to leave at noon earlier that morning b/c she said I didn't look too good either. Am I wrong in getting upset? Is it legal for her to request that I ASK for permission to go home b/c I am sick? Last edited by shayshc : Mar 20th, 2008 at 12:10 PM. Reason: mispelling |

The procedure required to request time off will differ from company to company. You should contact your company's HR department and request a copy of the guidelines on vacation and sick time.
