B-2 wanting to marry

I am a US citizen. My boyfriend is a Japanese citizen. He came here in Aug of 08 on a 6 month B-2 visitor visa. The intention was to visit me and personal study in music. However since he has been here we have talked about getting married. Im very confused on the options available. Could we get married in Dec and have him stay here? What is the best way to go about this? We still have until feb 09 so Id like to get started now.

One option I read was getting married here in the US and changing status. He can stay here until the process is complete? and not have to return.

Or can we apply for a finance visa while he is still here, he goes home in feb to get it and returns? How long is this process normally?

Any help is appreciated.

You can marry here now as long as he did not come with the intention of getting married.
