Default K1 and the waiting period

How long is the waiting period for a K1 visa approval and is it true it could take 2 years?

Yes it can take some time from the filing of the initial I-129F alien fiance(e) petition at the USCIS service center to the K-1 visa interview at the consulate/embassy. Generally though, the process is completed in 6-12 months depending on variables. Such as: If there is any name hits or security issues with the background/security checks, if there is delays caused by information and evidence submitted not being complete, and ultimately how long the individual consulate/embassy takes in scheduling interviews, etc. There is quite long wait times for interviews at certain consulates/embassies e.g. Philippines, Dominican Republic. Also, depending on how smoothly the process goes and on the wait times for interviews, a K visa can be in hand as early as 4 months. There has been reports of such.

See the processing times for the initial petition by using the Case Status Online and Processing Times link at USCIS Home Page Look for the link on the left hand side.

My k1 took 6 months. Im from Australia , it went pretty quick. Just a word of caution, keep every single form they send you no matter how insignificant you think it is.
