Unhappy HIV Discrimination

I was fired from an employeer in November 2005 for being late to work after confidentially informing my supervisor in May 2005 that I I was HIV positive. I had been working for the company since 1999, and after notifying my supervisor, the following month they started riding me about time issues, and changed my reporting time from 8:00 am to 5:00 am, as well as exposing me to other HIGHLY discriminatory behavior. I filed a complaint with the EEOC, and received a right to sue letter, but was unable to locate an attourny to take my case, all claiming to be to busy. I've lost everything I had, and just moved to FL, and seem to be running into the same brick walls here, being low on resources, and past the 90 day deadline to file a discrimination case, as well as no longer residing in HI due to whole mess. What are my options at this point, and can you steer me twords any VIABLE resources?

Filing a lawsuit without a lawyer: If you can't get a lawyer, and your deadline is approaching, you can still file a lawsuit. If your case can be filed in Federal Court, call the clerk of the District Court - the clerk has a packet of info for people who need to file employment cases and don't have lawyers (see the link to the their website on my front page). Don't miss your filing deadline. File a lawsuit even if you don't have a lawyer. After you file the lawsuit, you can take a deep breath and relax, because you've met your deadline. Then you can continue calling lawyers until you find one to take on your case.

If the 90 days is truly past you may still want to consult lawyers about other possible causes of action including breach of contract, fraud etc. Local HIV groups can also provide resources and referrals to counsel that deal with such issues.

My relative also got help with the local ACLU office. You could try speaking with them as well.
