Default Left old job during false accusations

I was basically forced to quit or be fired because a co-worker made alligations that I logged into her computer without her knowledge. They had no evidence (because I didn't do anything) but they were going to terminate me anyway, so I quit. All the info the talked about with our HR dept was to remain confidental, I'm finding out now a couple of months later, that she told all my co-workers that I did the act and now I have lost many friends.

Do I have any recourse against her or the company for their disclosure of confidential information discussed during private HR meetings??

If you may have a constructive discharge case, or a libel case.

Contact with the company and show them the evidence that they were wrong, and ask them to reinstate your job. If they refuse, then you will have a tort law case.

In addition to what the other posters said, I would add that if someone publicly says or writes anything factually untrue and it damages you, you indeed can sue for slander, libel, defamation, interference with business relations etc. -- or at least threaten to do so and give a warning.

Suing HR may be difficult if it is based solely on the fact that you thought all discussion would stay private --
