I had worked for a company for almost six years and was dating a co-worker within my department for over two of those years. The company was well aware of this and the relationship had never been an issue. I was called into a meeting with my supervisor, the manager of the company and the HR manager at the beginning of this year, and was advised that this relationship was now a problem and against company policy. Let me add here that there are other employees that are dating/married that also work within the same departments. They advised me that I would be moved out of my current department and into another position which they knew I would not be able to perform to company expectations. My boyfriend was advised of the situation as well, and offered to move to the other department instead of me. He was told no, that I had to go, despite the fact that I had been in the department and with the company longer than he had. I tried to seek alternate positions with the company that I would have been able to perform but was told it wasn't an option. I ended up resigning because I knew I could not perform the job, and figured a resignation would look better on my resume than being fired. I was also recently rewarded unemployment benefits which cited the fact that it was determined I quit my job due to discrimination. This has me wondering if there is something I can do, as far as filing against the company for unfair practices/discrimination. Any advice would be appreciated.

It is certainly possible you have a case based on what you say here; you could take a brief description of these events as well as your records to an employment law attorney and see if the attorney thinks you have a claim; often you need to contact several attorneys to find one to take the case; the review of your case and records is often free and then they will normally take the case on a contingency fee basis if they think you can win; you would pay only if they collect for you...
