Hi,
I work for an employer that has a history of firing people on the spot without reason. It is an at will environment. You know, they want 2 weeks notice if you plan on leaving, but will not give you 2 minutes if they let you go. Here is my situation: I have been with my current employer since 2002. I have never refused work, gone the extra mile, and received good work reviews. Several months ago, a person from another section of the department has been pointing fingers at me being that he feels my job is not important, and should be discontinued for cost saving reasons. What does he do? About once a month, he sends out an e-mail to multiple recipients and blames me when something in the computer department does not work right. This may include servers being shutdown, programs changing on the computers, and other equipment that does not seem to work correctly. This person fails to accept that many people have access to the equipment and there are security cameras in place. But, he still points fingers at me. Although many people can brush off e-mails, I feel harassed and as if this guy is rallying for support to eliminate my position for cost savings. I am considering the idea of talking to his manager, but do not have much faith. Especially, when this person in question parties and hangs out with the managers. I then thought of going over the managers and directly to the HR department to see what my options are. Being that I work midnights, I can only see a manager if I stick around in the morning. As for this person that sends out the e-mails, I rarely see him except for if he has to make the rare appearance at night to work on something. My question: Can false accusations through e-mail constitute harassment? Should I bypass the managers and report the issues to the top? I feel that if I go to the top and lodge a complaint, my immediate managers would face penalties for retaliation if they terminate me. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks |

It is not really harassment but you should discuss the issue with your supervisors asap.
If he outright lies about factual issues, you could consider legal action but giving his opinions or asking for your job to be eliminated , while irritating, is not illegal normally. |
