Hi,
I'm in a situation now.. I was talking to a person online and we eventually started having conversations of a sexual nature, it all escalated to the point where we exchanged nude videos. But in the end I found out he was not the person in the videos but probably just got them off the internet. It was a very stupid thing to do but now I wonder if I can do something about this? I have no way of knowing who this person is, all I have are facebook (surely fake) or skype conversations. Best case scenario, the videos are never posted online. I am over 18.. but he was faking being someone else. Can I do something about it? Best regards |

I wish to inform you that as video are given by you therefore you may not take necessary action against other party. However if your videos are published or any defamation is done then you can inform law enforcement agencies. As the action is online therefore law enforcement agencies can go after the IP address if available in order to know about the identity of the person.

Thanks for your answer,
If I understand correctly you mean I cannot do anything unless I somehow find out the videos are posted online or I'm being blackmailed? What about the fake identity? regards |

You should NEVER have been sharing such personal information that was easily identifiable with an anonymous stranger over the internet. As you can see, it's NEVER a good idea unless you KNOW and TRUST the other person (which is EXTREMELY difficult, if not impossible to accomplish in just a short time). A good rule of thumb is that unless you are comfortable with your mother or father seeing what you are posting on the internet, DON'T DO IT. You have NO GUARANTEES when it comes to who you're dealing with - or what they will do with what you give them.

You can't take legal action against someone for lying to you on the internet. Not in this case. And just so you know, if you e-mailed him a picture or video of you, you posted it on the internet. It's fair game at this point if you didn't post it with some sort of legal disclaimer attached.
