Is downloading music with Kazaa legal?

Is it true that use of kazaa may be illegal as stated below??? I assumed it was legal!

Thus far, the American recording industry have succeeded in neutering both Audiogalaxy and Napster, to name but two of the file swapping services that have been targeted. Now? It seems they're bracing themselves for the big one, as a Judge in the States has intonated that he'll be allowing music and movie companies to take action against the wildly popular Kazaa.


It's surprising at first glance that it's taken this long to get to this stage, but the twist with Kazaa is they're not actually based in the States. The service operated out of Australia, and much of the argument to date has been whether that area of the world is affected by Stateside copyright laws.

And it seems it could well be, which if confirmed will prompt numerous court actions against Kazaa's parent company Sharman Networks. We'll keep you posted.
