URGENT: Travelling to US when you had unpaid credit card bills dated 2 years back...
I'm a Turkish citizen and was a graduate student in the US between Jan.
2001- May 2005. When I moved back to Turkey in May 2005, I had several credit card debts which I couldn't pay completely (I graduated from a top university in the US and thought I would get a decent job; but low H-1 visa quotes cost me a job. It wasn't intentional. I really meant to pay and even considered bankruptcy; but a law firm I consulted told me I had to be present in court for bankruptcy hearings). As far as I remember I had 5 credit cards and had approximately $1,500 of debt on each of them. I also had two traffic bills that I needed to pay in the state of Pennsylvania. The total was approximately $500. Now, I work as an aerospace engineer and my company in Turkey would like to send me to the US for a 7-days education program in Nevada in December. I would like to know if I can travel to the US without any legal problems. Am I a criminal in the eye of the U.S.? Would I be arrested at the U.S. gates? Is there a resolution available? Please kindly let me know if you have an opinion or have experience on a similar situation. Last edited by faith123; Nov 6th, 2007 at 03:54 AM. |

reading your case, I hope is not to late to send you this message.
Based on what you explained in your posting I would say that you wont have anyproblem regarding the Money that you owe to the 5 diferents credit card company , beside that the accounts are to old to be colected, so those have been forgotten and you wont face any problem, Now in the trafic tickets you maybe have a warrant for your arrest, based on unpaid tickets of fail to apper in court they can detain you at anytime that they run your background at the gates, I know that this is a minor legal problem but the authorities can detain you even extradite you to PA in order to solve this problems, I had seen cases like that. My recomendations are get in touch with the county were the trafic tickets were issued and tell them that you are outside the country and try to make arragement to paid that, make sure to ask them if is there any warrant for your arrest, and if it is please make payment plan so they can lift the arrest warrant from the National Criminal Investigation Systems which a nationwide software they use to find if a persona is wanted in any states of the US Nation and you wont have any problem. Good Luck my friend |
