Confused french law? i have a friend who might be sued for slander...

hello!

i have a friend who might be sued for slander. she lives in france and is a french citizen. she was doing freelance work on a website ( there was a contract involved) and she received a bounced cheque from *bob ( the guy who she is doing the work for) she tried to contact him about the matter several times but his phone was disconnected and he was not answering her e-mails. so out of anger and short-sightedness she posted a message on his the website saying that the owner of the site is not to be trusted because he is a bad person to do business with (not in those exact words but that was the idea) that message was up for about 2hrs when bob called and said that she better take that site down and that he was going to call his lawyer and sue for any damages that may have occurred.

yesterday she found a letter from the bob's lawyer stating that the webisite should be put back up and that she will have no access to it and that there is a proposition with regards to economic and moral damages. no amount was stated. basically the message was what are you willing to offer bob?

she does not have a lot of money and she will go to see if she can get some advice from legal services in france. she is very upset and worried.

if anyone knows anything about the french/law system please reply asap.

thank you for taking the time to read this.

if there are sites that might be of help pls post them here. thanks!

If the check really bounced she can write on the web--and her opinion about doing business with him--that indeed he is bad to do business with; it should not have bounced. And truth is a defense to libel and slander in France too. She should sue him for damages.
