I am a South African currently residing in Taiwan. My girlfriend and I had a baby recently.
Under Taiwan law, my name cannot be printed on the birth certificate, and the hospital says they cannot give me any other papers to verify that I am the father. I would like to obtain some kind of document to prove that I am the father, for my own peace of mind as well as to get South African citizenship for our baby. What can I do? The mother and baby are currently in Myanmar for an extended break, so are unable to help, and the South African liaison office here can't seem to do anything to help either. |

Hi, I think we can do something for you through a chain-of-custody DNA paternity test. Our company DNA Diagnostics Center (DNA Testing Services from the World Leader in Paternity Testing) is the largest and most experienced private DNA testing lab in the world. We are specialized in doing immigration, citizenship, and other international chain of custody DNA paternity tests. Basically, we can send your sample collection kits to either your family physician or even the South African Liaison office in Taiwan that can assist you with a third party sample collection. They can then ship the samples back to our lab in Cincinnati U. S. A. It takes only 3-5 working days for our lab to generate the conclusive results if you are or are not the father. If you don't intend to use the results for legal purposes, we can also do a peace-of-mind test. In that type of private testing, we can ship collection kits to your own address or any designated address you provide. You can collect everyone's samples following our simple instruction and then ship the samples to our lab for analysis. If you have any more questions, please email me directly at ftao@dnacenter.com. I will be glad to help.

Thanks. But I had a look at their website, it appears they do not have centres in Taiwan. The hospital apparently does have some kind of record that I am the father, however they are not willing to issue me with anything but the birth certificate without my name on it.
I know the law states that the father cannot be put on birth certificate unless married, but I am not sure if this applies to expats. I have had a few problems in the past with people here interpreting the law in an incorrect manner. But those were all sorted out just by finding the right channel. In this case, I do not know what the appropriate course would be. |
