My son is 19-- if he insures his car with his own policy would I be liable in any way should he get into an accident ?

You can try searching Google. If your state has mandatory insurance, then you either have to carry the insurance, or have a bond in the amount of the minimum liability. If you have a loan on a vehicle, the loan company will require that you carry physical damage insurance to cover their exposure on the loan. If you work for an employer where your vehicle is involved, then it is highly probable that vehicle insurance will be required.
