Michigan. I purchased a home in Oct 2008. On recommendation from my real estate agent due to home being in Detroit, Mi. I should insure before closing & I did.
I replaced front door, furnace, & hot water heater. I was also finishing up with all repairs mandated by city inspector before I got certificate of occupancy. The home was broken into & all of previoosly items were stolen. Yes even the front door. This happened 2 weeks after I closed on home. I contacted insurance after I had police report made. Agent took my statement & promptly denied the claim due to me not living in the home. I was forwarded to customer service & after I discussed thier shady tactics. The customer service rep took this issue to her boss & promised that I would hear from them. I got the call & she stated that I have a valid claim due to there is a grace period that the insurance company has to take care of this claim. In the state of Michigan is this grace period apply |

hello all,
It sounds like a bad deal all round, sorry to hear it is causing you so much trouble. Have you heard any more news about it yet? I am not sure what the state regulations on it are. Maybe you can get some research material on similar claims to look at, the library may have some in the archives. If not maybe it is time to try the legal route----abourezklaw.com |

According to me your home may be the largest asset you own, so protecting it against fire loss just makes sense. In the event of such a disaster, you’re covered and your insurer will put you back into the position you were in before the fire.
