Auto Accident Uninsured

I have been involved in an car accident a few weeks ago and unfortunately I was at fault and uninsured that day.And on my way to pay my insurance. The other person's insurance sent me a bill with an amount I believe is far beyond the cost of the damage( it was in fact a minor scratch and a small break on the left rear side of his car),and they ask me for about $2,000 for a repai that can hardly cost $1,000. I am willing to pay since I was at fault but what can I do to get that fixed? It is just ridiculous. Thanks for your help.
