Court decision/Auto
Hello,
I live in Virginia, was driving in Washngton, DC.
I was recently in a car accident with a Metro bus. I had switched lanes and the bus hit me from the back. At the time of the accident, the officer that showed up felt that because I was merging that I was not fully in the lane and so he gave me a ticket for a moving violation. Also, at that time things had happened so quickly that I wasn't completly sure when the bus hit me, while I was merging or after. However, after the accident I visited an auto shop and they told me that my car had been hit square in the bumper, which means I was fully in the lane, also I went to court to contest the ticket, neither the officer nor city officials, nor the bus driver showed up, my ticket was therefore dismissed.
My question is, because my ticket was dismissed, and assuming no insurance company is involved can the city come after me to claim damages?
Does the court decision to dismiss the ticket also dismiss the account of the officer?
If not, how much does the officers account of the situation weigh if I have written testimony from an auto shop claiming my damage?
Thank you for your help.
