I want to move out of state, and I am actually thinking about quitting my job and starting over. How long will my insurance cover me before I must pay out of my pocket, and does it carry over like that? Does it depend on the company and the type of insurance I have? I have never done this before, so I am unsure.
It is hard for companies to take me seriously out of state, when I am looking for jobs......They are pretty much hiring people that are already in the area so I don't really know what to do. The area I want to live does not have facilities even close to where I want to move too for transfer. Or should I just look for the closest facility? Which would mean more than one move!! I am nearing 50, single/no children with avg health so I am taking a huge risk relocating w/o anything, can anyone help? I have BC/BS right now. THANK YOU SO MUCH |

I would reccommend goint to the web and seeing if you can get a short term (6mos-1year) policy. COBRA is so freaking expensive, you just might find you can do it cheaper

Hi
The primary Aim of Health Insurance is securing medical protection for self and family members. Health insurance mainly provide protection for unforeseen medical expenses. The health insurance provides even afford to obtain costly specialized medical services. It provides main comparatively high quality medical services. It keeps you free from financial worries during your sickness. It is more beneficial when your family is considerably large and need medical treatment frequently. maggi1 Last edited by wld_team : Aug 23rd, 2008 at 11:18 AM. |

Most insurances are valid until the last calender day of the month you leave because most premiums are paid month-to-month. Your employer has to offer you Cobra, and I suggest you take it. The reason is very simple- if, during the time you were uninsured you are diagnosed with a disease, say for instance, cancer, your new insurance carrier for your new job would consider this a pre-existing condition and it would be subject to a waiting period (sometimes up to a year) or not covered at all, ever. This could very easily put you in financial ruin. Also, you may be perfectly healthy, but you could need your appendix out, or you could fall and break your leg and need surgery. My mother-in-law was recently in the hospital overnight and her bill was $12,000! For ONE night! She did not even have surgery- she was just being monitored because she was vomiting and they thought she might be having a heart attack. She wasn't, turns out she just had the flu. She does not have any insurance, so she has to pay that bill. So you need to take into account the cost of Cobra coverage for the time when you are transitioning. Most employers offer insurance in 30 or 60 days, so a month or two of Cobra might be expensive, but far cheaper in the big picture than having a serious medical condition not covered due to a pre-existing clause in your policy.
