Angry Insurance has locked my account

My wife and I are separating and when I called my insurance company to make changes to my policy and mentioned this they locked my account and refuse to make any changes because of my separation. They are essentially holding me hostage by not letting me remove her from my coverage and my rates just went up somehow since they locked me out. Is this even legal for them to do? Can they get involved in my personal life in this manner?

Have you filed in court?

If so they may be waiting for the court order on this insurance and that is legal.

No, nothing has even started legally as far as divorce. I just mentioned it in a conversation when I was going to take her off of coverage for my car and myself off of hers.

They normally cannot force you to keep that policy then.

You may call the insurance board and complain. Tell them you will do so.

In some states they can split you and your vehicles to a new policy.
