Assaulted on the Job

During a work related argument, I was assaulted by an employee with a violent history. I am planning on going to the doctor today to diagnose the severity of my injuries. I have not contacted the authorities yet, but it appears that I may be forced too considering this incident looks to be costing me my job.

My boss told me that he made a mistake in firing another employee instead of me because he favored the one who attacked me IMO. Our company has had 3 to 4 rounds of cuts within the past 3 months, giving way to paranoia and a stressful work environment.

The incident happened early yesterday morning and though there were many witnesses neither of my supervisors had made it to work yet. I left after the incident and told the employee who pulled the assailant off of me that I had to leave to the writhing pain in my neck.

After sleeping on it, I realize that my job is pretty much toast and considering the climate of the housing market that I work in; it is not as if my job is growing on trees like it used to be... I am contemplating pressing chargers... I could really use some advice...
