Default hitting someone with a golf ball

I currently work at a nice private golf course. I work Outside Services. A couple weeks ago I accidentally hit a member of the club with a golf ball. This was not hitting him with a golf club but I threw a golf ball from about 200 feet away and it accidentally hit the member in the leg. I was throwing a range ball back down to the range and it went too far. Am I liable for this? Besides me possibly losing my job, can he sue me or am I liable for anything. At the time that I hit him he was totally fine and laughing and now a couple weeks later he is saying I chipped his tailbone and that he wants to withdraw his membership. Please advise.

Thank you

What was occurring--how did that happen?

You are liable if negligent but normally not if it was a pure accident when you were doing things that are customarily done in that environment.

Golf is assuredly a mystifying game. It would seem that if a person has hit a golf ball correctly a thousand times, he should be able to duplicate the performance at will. But this is certainly not the case.

Someone being hit by a golf ball is not a golfers fault.

Cool Re: hitting someone with a golf ball

The Golf ball was engineered to fly far distances through regular air. The dimples surrounding the Golf ball are the key to distance and accuracy. Golf balls are cheap and can be purchased in bulk from used golf ball dealers. They make the perfect projectile.
