Getting fired for seeking WC legal counsel
Can an individual get fired - by the company (supervisor) he works for - for seeking legal counsel on a Worker's Compensation case (in Florida) in the hopes of settling with the WC insurance company? The injury occurred with a previous employer (WC claim filed against that previous company's WC carrier). I work for the same supervisor who worked for that previous company and he has certain "loyalties" to that previous company. If he fires me, do I legal recourse? (I am still under a WC physicians care for the injury, and although the company I work for has an "employment at will" policy, will that be enough for them to substantiate my supervisor's action and get away with my termination? My present employer is aware of my WC issues from the previous company and has not pressed anything concerning it, because their WC carrier is not being charged with the accident). If I lose my job right now, with my WC injury the way it is, I feel I will not be able to find another job at this time, and lose everything I have worked hard for. Any advice in this arena would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!
