Confused Query character reference for immigration

We are wanting to apply for temp residency for my husband who arrived from Canada to Australia in Sept 2007. I am a resident here.
Now we are having some issies as to where we need to obtain the information fro a "character" check...a form called>>>Canadian Police Certificate for visa application/foreign travel/foreign work permit.

After reading the form 47P on immigration it seems that outside of Canada we need to obtain fingerprints at a local police station and then forward those to the RCMP along with a letter stating what this is for....?????? I really have nooooo idea.

When we arrived at the police station here in Australia they advised us differently saying that they needed authroity from Canada to take fingerprints and after asking alot of immigration for advice it looks asthough we have to put in his application for temp residency without it.

Can anyone help....we are applying for spouse visa.

Thanks.

They want to check that no outstanding criminal law issues exist.

But normally you can collect all the information no matter what location you are in. If need be have immigration counsel handle it for you and put the application together. It is not so easy at it looks in many cases.

Hello,

Have you checked this website:

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/crimrec/finger2_e.htm

If you are having problems obtaining finger prints then just take the request letter from the Department of Immigration with you to the police station.

You should be aware that, unless this has changed recently, Canadian police clearances take a long time to process (months rather than weeks), so you should begin to sort this out as soon as possible.

The Australian government will insist on having a police check from each country your partner has lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.

Cheers,
SOMV
