Default Banned From US, Engaged to American

Hello,

Here is my situation. In Jan, 2007, I feared greatly for my life re: my ex husband here in Canada, and so I fled to the United States, without inspection when I crossed the border. I lived under an alias (a name I made up, which was in no way related to anyone's SSN or personal identification at any time). I made these decisions because I feared for my life, and didn't want there to be any record of where in the world I was. Someone reported me to the local authorities in Arizona in early 2009, and in Feb 2009, I was charged with some offenses, which I have never faced trial for, and am willing to, because they were false charges and would easily be dismissed in court - I was informed by someone that in order to send me to Immigration custody there had to be criminal reasons for doing so - I don't know if that's true or not. Anyways, in Feb 2009 I was sent to Immigration services and detained, until i was deported in May of 2009, with the charge being "entering the country without inspection". I was banned from the United States for 10 years. My understanding is, that this ban can be contested. I am engaged to an American, and because of his job, we would like to be in the United States, not Canada. What are the steps I can take to have the ban lifted? And would I have a chance of lifting the ban, or is this a fruitless pursuit?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
Tracey

You can have immigration counsel prepare a special hardship explanation and petition, and if it is accurate and compelling, the bank could be lifted.
