Visitor visa - Canada

Hi,

My wife and I came down to the US from Canada 4 years ago on an L1 visa with my employer. I lost my job and the L1 unfortunately goes with it. We know we have to leave the country within 30 days and are planning to go back to Canada within that time period. However, we own a house here and want to come back while I attempt to get a new job. My job prospects are actually quite good and I believe I can find an employer to sponsor me.

So my question is. If we go back to Canada, can we turn around and come to the US on a normal visitor/tourist visa as long as there is no intention to work while we are here? We don't want to leave our home while I go through the job hunting process. We know we would have to leave and come back again to change the visa should I gain employment.

We are just worried that coming across the border from Canada to the US might be sticky since we own a home here and have lived here for 4 years. Even the vehicle we drive is from the US and has local plates and registration.

Any advice would be really appreciated.
