Angry bad hiring practices

my husband was hired for a new job and told it was contingent upon education verification they called later in the week said everything was complete and start to work on Mon. On Thurs bfore the start date we went down to house hunt. they moved us into a corp apt and then called bfore mon and said oops education verification was not complete nothing but formality dont worry everything is ok come in on mon. and fill out all p-work and do physical, he did they told him to go back to house hunting and they would be in touch. They had had the verification from the school for nearly two weeks at this point. They called two days later and said nationally accrediated school however the accrediating agency was not recoginzed in their state and could not hire him. They cost us a lot of time and money not to mention that after being told everything was ok come to work my husband turned down two other jobs 80-90k range. Now the co wont talk to him and has not even reimbursed our expenses. What should we do?

You could go to small claims court and seek reimbursement of the costs and fees you incurred. You did after all rely on them to take those steps and you could have waited if they had not told you to proceed.
