I work in the technical side of a major player in the copier/digital printer industry, and my wife works in the executive offices for a major company here in the state of Texas. I've been "asked" a number of times by our management to get my wife to find out the name of the decision maker who is in charge of purchasing office equipment. My wife's position has a "conflict of interest" clause that would prohibit her from giving out such information. Even though I have stated that she can't do such because of her agreement the sales staff still persists. The sales rep who is in charge of penetrating my wife's firm has gone so far as to ask my immediate manager to tell me to ask my wife to produce a name.
I feel they are stepping out of bounds on this issue. Can I get written up or terminated for refusing to pressure my wife? |

That is totally improper and illegal.
You could consult your nearest Department of Labor office to briefly discuss the issue with them first...you may also want to ask the company to put what is happening in writing and explain to them that you may have attorneys review the situation...try speaking to a higher level of management about the issue; they may override the other managers. If none of these efforts resolves the issue, let us know here. |
