My workers keep trying to make me stay later than I am posted I have a family and they are trying to suspend me for not staying later. Can they do this?

That is not legal without pay if you are hourly.

If you are salary it is not illegal but unfortunately you will just have to deal with it one way or another. You could ask management to set clear policies to help guide these problems.

Co-workers cannot require fellow employees to stay late. Only the management/employer can do that. If the co-workers, and not management, are threatening termination, take that to your manager/employer. They (the co-workers) have overstepped their boundaries.

If it's management, I would have to agree with the last poster. Have them put in writing the guidelines for staying late. You are only required to work what the company detailed as the job position called for. Some occasional overtime in some jobs, is sometimes expected, but you have the right to decline.
