ohio I was terminated from my job today based on my manager's call off rules, not our corporate rules. I have a serious health condition that makes me very sick, and am scheduled to have surgery in the next few weeks. most of my call offs are due to either my own illness or when my grandson was born early and was transfered to another hospital's nicu unit and my daughter was in the hospital she gave birth in with very high blood pressures and was very ill herself and which, I filed with my company for all my vacation time and took family medical leave to cover being gone until I was sure they were both going to be fine and to care for her 2 year old daughter while she was in the hospital. My manager said today that he had no other choice based on his call off rules and the chart he made to terminate me due to calling off to many times in the past 6 months, he also said that the total number of days I had called of that he was letting me go was 4. I also find it odd that I have never had any verbal nor written warnings for any of the call offs and my terminations was the first warning of any type. I also find it a odd time to do this seeing that I just informed my EXA store manager that I would have to be off work from Nov. 14, 2009 due to I have surgery scheduled on Nov. 16, 2009 and would need to be off for 6-8 weeks which falls into and through the holliday season.

What is your question?
It is perfectly acceptable for employers to terminate employees if they are not reliable, even due to illness. The purpose of an employee is to be available for the employer to perform specific duties during a specific time period each day. If a person cannot fulfill those duties, the employer has every right to look for someone who can and will. |
