Default terminated?

so i quit my old job and got hired at a new job.
first day of work, i worked 8 hours...

than i went into the office to show them my drivers license and social security card.
this is for the Form I9.

they said that they could not accept my social security card?
i asked what was wrong with it, all they said was that they cant accept it, and that my employment would be terminated immediately. i asked if i went to the social security office and got a new card, would i be able to get my job, they told me NO!... i even asked if i reapplied would i get a job at that company, they said NO!...

i went to the social security office and they told me that my card was an older one, but there is nothing wrong with it.

what i want to know now is, is this even worth getting a lawyer and fighting for?

I don't think this would be considered wrongful termination...I could be wrong though, perhaps someone else will know. I am curious though, what state are you in?

Actually, you need to report this employer to the Labor Department in your State. They must give you a reason why your SS card was not accepted.

Call your State's Department of Labor and ask if there are any SS cards that are not considered acceptable and explain to them what took place. Post back. I'm very curious as to their reasoning.

It sounds like a cover for them simply not wanting to hire you. But if you worked even 1 minute for them, they must pay you, by law.
