Can I get fired for reporting illegal activity at the place I work?

State of Michigan.

Can I get fired for reporting criminal and other types of illegal conduct at my work? How can I protect my rights?

Check your state laws. Usually, there is what's known as the Whistleblower's Protection Act, in which if you are fired as a result of reporting unsafe or illegal working conditions and your employer retaliates by firing you, and you can prove this is why you were fired, you have rights.

I agree with the poster above--you cannot be fired just because you report it, and in fact you can sue if they fire for the reporting of the act in retaliation.
