California- For 16yrs. I've been an on-site manager of a mobile home park. I'm compensated with a wkly. paycheck and a small apartment connected to the office that I work out of. I was informed by my immediate boss, one of 5 owners of the property, to pack-up and moved out by the middle of next month because a management company is taking over. Maybe a possible 2wk. severance. He gave some lame excuse as to why I was being replaced, "mistakes" that he doesn't have time to check on. There are no paper trail of these "mistakes" or anything verbally said to me in person. I was never notified of any problems. All of a sudden I'm now being told to leave with barely enough time to make plans, organize, find a new place to live and find another job.
Initially, I was hired by the five original owners (Inc.) of the property after a inperson interview and a handshake. No other paper work was signed other than a W-2. The one owner who I did daily park business with and became friends has passed away a couple of years ago and gave her share of the property to her adult son and daughter who are cluess to everyday runnings of a mobile home park. They became my new bosses. I feel they have been trying to get me to quit for sometime now. So now I'm being forced out of not only my job but, a place to live. I don't have any idea where to go much less how I'm going to support myself. I'm 74yrs. young. I need more time to pack and plan and a lot more to pay for it than a 2wk. severance. I feel that I'm being treated unfairly. I don't mind leaving this position, I'm burnt out on it. But, to just announce out of the blue that I will be homeless is rediculous. Please advise or direct me to who can. Thank You so much for your time. Sincerely. F. B. Last edited by Bolter95; Jan 12th, 2009 at 02:25 AM. |

In an "at will" enviroment (yours) you can be terminated at any time fo any or no reason at all. The exception would b eif the termination violated, law employee contract or Union guidelines. I see none fo those here.
Your place to live is different. The Landlord "must" follow your states guidelines for removal of tenant. Is there a lease? If so what are terms? Do you pay weekly, monthly or what on rent? How much time were you give to leave? Answer these I might be able to help
