I won my appeal in court on July 10th. My employer appeared and was caught in several lies and didn't have enough evidence to back himself up.
I received my wonderful news that I won on July 18th. On the 17th, I received an odd call from an ex co-worker from that company. She asked what had happened between us and I told her. She told me that the same thing happened to her. I told her to do what I did and file for UI. But she also said that when she was let go, he said he was closing his business. My question is. How can I get UI if he closed his business. If the rumor is true, that means he closed his business just 3 working days after the court ruling. Can he do that? What will happen to me? Do I just proceed collecting from my past employment before him? What happens? Also, how long after I received my notice I won my case, will it take for me to get my back pay owed to me? I have tried to contact EDD but their phone lines are to busy and wont accept calls which is very frustrating. Thanks in advance (California) |

You all are so helpful here! LMAO
Just for future reference for others who get unanswered and who may have this question. It took a little over 2 weeks (17 days). I received all back pay that same very day, paid by 5 checks. It was like hitting the lotto jackpot. I deserved that and those of you who deserve it too, good luck to you. |

Good luck to you. Keep your chin up, stay honest and fight for your right.
To be more successful, gather every piece of eveidence you got and bring it with you. Notorized documents are a plus. Don't be nervous! The judge will ask you tricky questions, but as long as you tell the truth you shouldn't have any problems, they analize your answers. They will know if you're telling the truth or not. My judge amazingly got my employer to litterally contradict himself and I caught it right off the bat. He first told the judge I initiated the meeting and quit, then he said he called me in his office and initiated the meeting. He also told the judge that he knew I was leaving 2 weeks prior to my departure, then said he didnt hear about my leaving until my final day. All in all, he was caught in several lies. Personally I think he should be punished for lying, but him having to pay backpay and taxes is good enough for me. He'll eventually skin his knees again. As per this subject, don't pace the floors for your money, count on it coming to you within 2 weeks after you win your case. I've asked a few questions at these advice sites and they suck! You get ignored or you get lame answers from lazy advisors. Good luck to you. You can do it!
