Confused Please help my mom...

My mom has been working at a bio-med company for about 3 years now. The company was bought-out last year and everyone that stayed with the company was promised a retention bonus after another year of service. That payout is coming in late June. She had her annual review 1-2 months ago, was give a 3.5 out of 4 rating (excellent) and a really great bonus. She loves her job as a project coordinator. So, about a month ago, she got a new boss. This woman is new to the company and is a VP. Upon meeting my mother, the new boss said 'you're not what I want.' She was given a 'verbal warning' by the new boss after only 2-weeks and since then was give 2 more. Last week she was put on a 60-day improvement plan.

My problem is that the improvement plan includes stuff like... putting the monthly report in Word, not PDF... When scheduling interviews with possible new-hires, she should include specific directions from the interview-ee's home to the office, not by giving them 'generic' directions.

To me, that's not very 'improvement' oriented and seems pretty bogus. My mom's not a mind reader, they've been doing the monthly report in PDF since before she even arrived. If the new VP had ever asked for it to be delivered another way, I'm sure my mom would have complied... How do you put a talented, accomplished employee on an improvement plan when you yourself have been with a company less than 30 days?

So, I get it, this woman want's her out. That's just fine by me... I don't want her working for such a big B**** anyway! My mom is willing to put up with the crap so that she'll still get the bonus. It's 15% or so of her salary, so she's not going anywhere voluntarily?

So, is she just about to get fired? And if she does, is there anything she can do about it? Can she do anything to prevent it? Could she do something like go on disability until th bonuses come out. I just want her to get her bonus and get the hell out of there.

Default Re: Please help my mom...

She may want to keep a clear record of the so-called issues and have a meeting with other upper management at some point.

If they compare her past performance with the issues that seem to be developing now, they may ask the new manager to cool down a bit.

But these issues are common unfortunately when a new manager comes in.
