in october of2006 my father was diagnosed with colon cancer and was then scheduled to have the tumors removed. the operation was to only take 3 hours, simple tumor removal. however the doctor who did the colonoscopy was way off on the size amount and location of tumors resulting in a 6 hour operation with the end result being a colostomy. we were completley mis informed from the begining. the colostomy was a total shock to my siblings and i as well as our father. we were never warned or told that a colostomy may be needed, nor was any consent given to do anything other than the tumor removal. upon further testing we learned that neither the tumors or cancer had spread beyond the wall of his colon all numbers came back great and the lymph node tests were all clear but the doctor said we should do small amounts of chemo and radiation just as a preventative measure nothing serious and not to much because huge amounts werent neede due to all the great test results.we were told after the treatments he could go in for reattatchment,so in october of 07 after all treatments we did, only to get more bad news. the doctors said they couldnt even get through to my dad pelvis due to all the damage. due to to much radiation at to high a dose all of my fathers guts and insides are fused together in a giant mass, the reversal of the colosotmy cant be done, ever. we are really upset and angry especially since we were never told that the fusion could happen or be a risk.we really dont understand why so much radiation was given in the first place since the test results were so good. my fathers life will never be the same and i was wondering if we had a law suit

It is certainly possible you have a case based on what you say here; you should take a brief description of these events as well as your medical records to a malpractice attorney and see if the attorney thinks you have a claim; often you need to contact several attorneys to find one to take the case; the review of your case and records is often free and then they will normally take the case on a contingency fee basis if they think you can win; you would pay only if they collect for you.

It is very well possible that you would have a lawsuit against the doctor. One thing you should do is keep a daily log of his routine . For example how he feels each day or what activities he cannot do now that he could do. Make sure you write the date on each entry. I am sorry that this happened to you.
