How can I determine whether I am the father of my girlfriend’s unborn baby?

My girlfriend is from Ukraine and, following an argument, we have not been together for the period 17th April 2012 – 5th May 2012. From the early morning of the 7th May 2012, we have been making love on a daily basis. Please note that on the 9th May 2012, I noticed certain pregnancy symptoms from my girlfriend (i.e. light vaginal bleeding, breast tenderness). On the 19th May 2012 she returned to Ukraine and on the 28th May 2012 she informed me that, following a home pregnancy test, she found out that she was pregnant. I can remember that she also did a home test when we were together (around the 13th May 2012) but it did not indicate pregnancy. She visited her doctor in Ukraine on the 29th May 2012 and she claimed that the doctor found her to be 3 weeks and 2 days pregnant and that he due date was the 15th January 2013. When I asked her how the 15th January was possible if her last period was on the 24th April 2012 and we started making love after the 7th May 2012, she answered that the doctor counted from her last period. On the 8th June 2012, we visited her doctor in Ukraine for an ultrasound and, while I could not understand a thing, she told me that the doctor said that her due date was the 15th January 2013 (but when she informed him about possible conception date he stated that due date was the beginning - middle February). She also claimed that the doctor told her that the baby was about 4 weeks and that it had a heart, which would start working in about a week. Based on these facts, could you give me your advice?

After the baby is born, get a DNA test. That will resolve it.

I wish to inform you that the paternity of your child can be determined both after the child is born and before the child is born. After the child is born, the paternity can be determined by DNA testing. Before the child is born, the paternity can be established by Amniocentesis and CVS. In case of Amniocentesis, the test can be conducted between 12th and the 21st week. In case of CVS, the test can be conducted between the 10th and the 12th week. The tests are conducted in specialized laboratories.

Amniocentisis is VERY dangerous for it can induce miscarriage. Any mother and responsible doctor would reject this option out of hand. There is no reason for it, anyway.

After the child is born DNA testing can be done and that is conclusive.

Ultrasounds which are routinely performed now also show the child's stage of development.
