Confused FMLA Compliance

My 83 year old Mother just had hip surgery last week. I have submitted the proper FMLA documents to the surgeon's office weeks ago. My employer is more than willing to approve my time off to care for my Mom, as long as I have the papers filled out by the doctor's office. My problem is, I can't seem to get any response or cooperation from the doctor's staff. I have left messages for over a week now & I get NOTHING. No call back, no messages, nothing. My Mom will be coming home in the next few days & without those papers, my job is on the line.
I understand that the FMLA Act is a law. What else can I do to make them comply?
I have 29 years in with the same company. My biggest concern is my Mother's well being but I don't want to jeopardize my pension in the process.
I appreciate any assistance and/or guidance you may have.

Go to the office and ask them to act--your presence should get it done. But it is a shame you have to push them like that. You could threaten to file a complaint with their licensing board if need be.

Smile Re: FMLA Compliance

I followed through as suggested & it worked like a charm. A bit of a runaround at first but when I told them I had no other choice but to contact their licensing board, in addition to the Dept. of Labor, I had the documents within less than an hour. My Mom is home now & I couldn't be more proud of her. Thank you so much for helping me eliminate the additional & unnecessary stress related to my job in this matter. The focus is on Mom & that's where it should be. God bless you.
