Confused ER VISIT and No Income

I was seen at my local hospital emergency room in Rochester, NY and I have no income. I am over 25 and since I have no income was listed as a dependent on my parents income taxes. At first, hospital billing told me that if I had no income the bill would be almost be nothing. I was later told that if Medicaid covered this it would be $700.00. I was to late to file for Medicaid. Now hospital billing says they need my parents tax forms from me to process the bill. They claim that the hospital funds come from the state and this is why they need the tax forms . My question is this , can the hospital bill me and go after my parents for my bill even when I am over 25 years old and I thought that once you are over the age limit of 21 years old that they can not be held responsible for my bills ?? Also, can the hospital use my parents tax forms to calculate my bill ? Thanks for any help you can give !

They cannot go after your parents for the bill unless your parents signed and agreed to pay.

Up date: I have been told that my parents could be held responsible because I was claimed as dependent on the taxes. What do you think ?

Could my parents amend their income taxes to claim no dependents ?
