My 16 year old son who has an approximate $7K mouth has had to spend 4+ months in the DOC. He had a dental appt. prior to being sent. They pulled two of his teeth and are now wanting to pull an additional two teeth which can be fixed with root canals. Does he have the right to refuse these extractions, he will be out very soon - or can he have this done somewhere else while still "inside"? Am already looking at costly bridge work due to the other extractions. . . . . advise, please, asap - they are planning to do these extractions on the 17th!

Hello Friends,
Most of the medications that they get while in prison are generics, but, yes you are footing the bill. When they are incarcerated, the jail takes "care and custody" of them. Which means, to the average person, takes care of all their medical problems, from normal complaints of head aches to surgeries. If an inmate has to be sent to the hospital, if he needs new glasses, if he requires any thing that you or I on the street would get, he gets it too. While many inmates state they do not get the best care or the fastest, trust me, its better than what most people get, but for free. Best Regards Simon Joseph |

After the patient has been well informed regarding a medical condition and possible treatment, the patient has the right to refuse medical treatment. He can refuse treatment on general principles, such as religious or personal beliefs, or he may refuse treatment because he is not comfortable with the method and measure of treatment. The patient can also voice any grievances over treatment.
