Angry SSI disability and child support (SSI payment/ statement)

Hi, I have a son he recieves SSI for a disability. He is supposed to be getting the 674.00/mo in SSI disability. However he recieves child support from his dad in the amount of 450/mo. SSI is documenting his 450 child supoort as his "unearned income". They are deducting 450 from the 674 to arrive at his monthly SSI payment due to him.. Is this correct?? I thought that when there is support payment from a parent or child support that they could only count 2/3 of the child support (the 450.00)??

Angry re: SSI disability and child support (SSI payment/ statement)

HELLO,
This is NOT correct. When the income is child support 2/3 is supposed to be counted not the whole amount. So from the 674, 2/3 of whatever your child support should be deducted. NOT dollar for dollar. That should only happen if it is actually earned income greater than 65 a month. You have to read the back of the SSI statements carefully.
I went down to my local SSI office today regarding this. My son's caseworker said he has the 450 entered in the system as child support. I said to him well then why does the statement that i recieved just 2 days ago say that the 450 is unearned income and that there is no documentation that the 450 is child support on it. He said he does not know why that is. I said to him also that the 450 is child support, a support payment from a parent, 2/3 of the 450 is supposed to be counted /deducted from the 674, why is the full amount being counted for him. He said he did not know, but that i was right. He says he entered the 450 in the system as child support from there the "system" is SUPPOSED TO automatically deduct just 2/3 of the c. support. I said to him well that has not been done in my son's case. He said he did not know why, but that he will re-enter the 450 again as child support and see what happens, and that I may get a new statement for him. If i do not get a new statement in a few days correcting this i am fileing an appeal. I contacted my son's lawyer and she is supposed to be calling me back as well. This is getting rediculous. My daughter recieves SSI for a different disability and she recieve the same amount in child support, now HERS is configured correctly. lol. SOOOO AGGRAVATED

EEK! Re: SSI disability and child support (SSI payment/ statement)

NOW I am being told that they can document the 450 which is child support as unearned income because my son is 22 and no longer in school. They only count 2/3 of it ,, if its a minor child ,or the child is still in school. I was told that cant enter it as child support anymore for my son, and they have to count the whole 450 ,,,,except for i think for 20 dollars of it.. oh well.....

And i still dont know if they are correct in deducting the 450, of child support, (unearned income) because he has expenses such as personal needs, clothing, food, medical costs not covered, and a couple bills which causes his monthly expenses to excede 450,and i filled out an SSI expense form stating this. The 450/mo is spent down or spent out whatever u want to call it. I am calling the advocancy alliance for him to see if this is right.
