deny and reopen -- fiancee visa, affidavit of support

My husband came from England to the US on a fiancee visa. We were married in August and immediately applied for adjustment of status. Everything seemed to be going fine until we were notified yesterday that he had been denied and he must leave the country. Their reason for the denial is because they didn't receive a affidavit of support from me. We sent an affidavit of support from my parents because I didn't have a job at the time. They had accepted this for the fiancee visa. The notification says we cannot appeal but can reopen (with a $630 check).

My questions are; 1. Can we contest this? 2. May he stay in the country while this reopen petition is being processed?

Yes you can reopen as it is says and I believe that does allow him to stay. I faced a similar situation but also confirm with them and try to make sure you get a lawyer to review that letter and confirm details.
