Question fiance or tourist visa?

I am marrying a Mexican citizen in Mexico in October 2007. He currently has his tourist visa good for 10 years. We are planning to return to the US at the end of 07. Do we need to apply for the fiance visa, or can we simply apply for his green card once we arrive in US? Thanks for your assistance.
