I have a question about the criminal record for a person applying through the family sponsorship (spouse).
I recently got married and my husband has a criminal record back in 1998 and in 2002 in Europe. The offenses were theft and criminal offense of concealment. Now, I am wondering if that is going to pose any problem in getting his papers done?? And if it is even possible for him to get the papers because of those offenses? Is it possible for Canada to overlook those offenses knowing that they happened so long ago and knowing that he had no problems with the law after that?? Please let me know as soon as possible, I appreciate it a lot Thank you! |

I hope things work out for you and your husband. A couple of areas of concern are raised by your post. First, the 2002 offense is fairly recent in the scheme of things. Secondly, the nature of the offenses (i.e. involving disceit or dishonesty) could make them fall into the category of what is known as "moral turpitude". Truthfully, this is one area where you really must speak with an immigration attorney in Canada. If you go to their main page, WLD does have such lawyers and could set up a referral for you. Take care. AJJ
