Exclamation Need access to mentally ill mom's doctors

My mom is paranoid schizophrenic, bi-polar/manic depressive. She has stop taking her meds. I want my family to be able to legally talk to my mom's doctors without my mom's permission so that we will know what is going on in her medical life. We just want to have communication with her doctors and have a say in what her medical treatments are. We do not want full guardianship.

We need to have input in what her meds are because when my mom stopped taking her meds three years ago we had to have her temporarily institutionalized 3 times. During that time the doctors tried lots of meds and ultimately put her on a shot treatment she would get in the doctor's office once a month. That worked out great because if mom didn't show up to take her shot they would put her back in the mental hospital. Now three years later my mom has had her meds changed back to pill form and is just not taking the pills again. We suspect this because she is acting like she isn't on meds at all.

With my mom having sole control over her medical life she can have her meds changed, and also change doctors as much as she likes so that she can find one that will not make her take a shot. We don't want guardianship of her because she functions well on her own when she is on her meds. We just want to have legal access to her doctors so that we can warn them to never take her off the shot and they'll have to respect our wishes. What options does my family have and how do we pursue them?

You can seek a court order but otherwise unless she agrees there are not many other options. And a court order will require good reason.

Thank you for the reply. How would I go about getting a court order? I live in TN if that makes a difference. Will I need to have representation?
