An 18 year old adult from Iowa or South Dakota crosses state lines to live in Nebraska where 19 is the legal age of majority.(?)
He is receiving services from a place that is requesting the mother in South Dakota to sign power of attorney and consent forms. QUESTION: Is the parent(s) of an 18yo Iowa/SD adult legally responsible for him again if he chooses to live in Nebraska? Question: Can the mother legally sign these papers? We don't want legal responsibility any more. We don't know what financial burden could be lurking if we sign papers saying we are responsible for a time. |
