Soldier won't tell Army he is married
My question concerns the rights of a civilian woman who married a man who is
in the US Army. They married in September 2007 and he was deployed 2 weeks later. The wife has never received any kind of paperwork that acknowledges her as a wife of a US army serviceman (such as a military ID). The husband apparently has never filled out any of the necessary paperwork to notify the military that he is married. This fact has only recently been discovered after months of telephone calls between the spouses where the husband has been putting off his wife when she asks about any benefits she might be eligible for, and when or if she will be able to join him on the base where he is now serving (Korea). Currently and for the past several weeks the husband has not been answering any of his wife's attempts to communicate with him. Is there any way for her to (1) verify his whereabouts right now (he was expected to be on leave stateside sometime this month) and (2) inform the Army that she is married to one of their servicemen, and therefore should be eligible for some basic benefits? Thank you for your help.
