Recently i had a fallout with my mother and got kicked out of the house. She knows i do not have anywhere to go and still in High School.
I am still 17 but turn 18 in a week. Is it legal for her to "kick me out" if i am still 17 in Ohio? And when i turn 18 she will not have an responsibility over me? Is there any law or anything ( state of ohio) that might prevent me from geting kicked out if i am still in Highschool? |

Normally no it is not. You may inform the police if you wish and they will take you back there. Social services may also intervene.

I remember when I was 17 and I almost bet your about at that stage where you think you know it all. You sound worried now because you have no place to live and it just hit you that you have no money either. My suggestion is to grow up a little bit. Since you didn't mention your dad i am guessing your mom is a single mother and most likely having to raise the kids and work a job to support your family. You need to appolize for what ever happened and and make up with her. You need to understand parents go through a lot of stuff that kids have no idea about. You should be helping her out around the house every day and having supper cooked when she gets home is really nice to single mom sometimes. Don't be such a brat and learn to accept that your not always right. And if you call family service on your mom after she took care of for 17 years then you deserve to be homeless and living on the streets. Your almost an adult and you need to start acting like one. You only have one year of high school left, so deal with what ever is going on. Try your best to help out and when you graduate if you want to leave then take off. Atleast you will have a start with a diploma rather that a drop out who took a bad situation and made it worse.

I think the last post was a bit harsh. Yes parents go through alot of things "kids" don't know about. But i'm pretty sure, teenagers and young adults go through very difficult situations with school and friends etc. and to kick a 17 year old out without anywhere to go is just heartless, i can say this from having experienced it myself. Parents need to realise that sometimes we have troubles and make mistakes, but we aren't going to learn from them without the support of our families.
I knwo there are alot of kids out there that really are brats...but mostly, we're just trying to find our place in the world, and we are constantly being discouraged and critisised. Give us a break! Parents, you decide to have kids, raise them for 18 years, then decide we're big enough to look after ourselves...but what if we can't? its no wonder so many kids have such poor relationships with their parents. |
