My brother (23) and his wife (21) live in Alberta, Canada, and are leaving for California, USA, for 13 days at the end of August 2007. They asked me to take their baby (born January 27th, 2007) for the duration of their trip. Do they need to fill out any forms in case of emergency reguarding their child while they're away? Will I need to be the child's legal guardian by a form or a verbal statement? They do not have a will, or a legal guardian for this child either. Any information on this subject would help greatly. Thank-you very much.

You will need some kind of power of attorney or health care power. You may want to call your local social services to see what they recommend locally. Seems like a bit of a large responsibility you are taking there.
