Our 16 year will be 17 in a few weeks and we were informed that she is moving out to live with a friend and her family. We live in the state of Texas and the police here have told us that a 17 year old can leave if they want to and we can't stop her but we are responsible for her until she is 18. She is moving to Oklahoma and the father of the girl wants us to sign a paper to give him permission to handle her as far as medical, school and everything else... We will not sign anything for the fact it is her choice to do this, not ours. Does anyone know what our rights are as a parent are in the state of oklahoma? any information would be greatly appreciated.

Check with another police dept and call the DA as well. It was my understanding that in TX the child needs your permission until age 18.
The DA will tell you for certain. |
