Im 17 and i just recently moved out of my parents houses. If you truly raised him right he will know what is right and wrong he will be fine...I was just like that hanging out with the wrong people, staying out til midnight at 16 it was crazy....but i was raised right and now i got a car, a house i go to church, and im still in school. Trust him. He'll be fine

Ok im about to turn 18 in 2 weeks and then im moving out of my parents house and moving in with my grandparents in Tennessee because im going to college there, and if my grandparents want me home at a certain time then i have to be their at a certain time while im living under their roof, i told you that to tell you this, if your son wants to move out he can danm well do it, but, as long as hes living under your roof he needs to obeyed by your rules. At least untill he moves out.

Which states have an over 18 requirement? It is my understanding the all 50 states have 18 as being legal age. You can move out if you want to. If you can work a 40 hour week plus go to school (although I have no idea how you are pulling that off), you can move out.

Yes he can legally move out. I just recently came across a similar issue. My 18 year old son, only child, was slacking Severely in his responsibilitites. Work, school just simply being responsible. I sat down with him and had a intense discussion.
He had the choice to share his dilema and what issues he had that were interring w/his major responsiblities. He chose to leave... I raised him w/morals, values, critical thinking smarts, etc. etc. Sometimes kids need to experience for themselves. . / THe law makes an 18 year old ultimately responsible. Whether they are finishing high school or out. ..He or she is his own. Blessings upon yours. |

Sit him down and talk to him. Tell him that he is 18 now and that means he needs to start taking on some adult responsibilities. Tell him that if he lives under your roof he will have to obey your rules. Compromise with him find a common ground so you both are happy like let him hang out with his friends on friday and saturday nights till 12:00 but you have to know where he is going however on school nights he has to be home by 9 and he has to keep his grades up if he wants to hang out with his friends ever. Since he is 18 the worst he can say is "Im not gonna do that at all" or "Thats so Unfair" You respond by simply saying you live in my house right now and if you dont like the rules under my roof find a house of your own. He most likely wont have another place to go other then a friends house which you can talk to the parents there and find out what he is doing.
Hope this helps some |
