I'll try to make this short and sweet. My brother lives in NY, I live in Texas. My brother is 15 (16 in june) and lives with my father. My father can no longer "handle" his behavior and I feel I would make a better suited guardian. Coming from NYC as well, I know the struggles he is facing as I faced them when I was his age. He is a high school dropout and he is headed nowhere. I had a chance to move away and make a better life for myself when I was his age and in the SAME EXACT situation. My father and him both agree it would be best for him. I was wondering what type of documentation I should look for, should I take temporary or limited guardianship (i was subjected to the latter when I moved in with a friend's family when I was 16) and if it is wise to seek a legal representative (also go through court) or would the "temporary guardianship" authorization form and a notary count. Also wondering how it would work if I can not be in NYC to sign papers and I can't be in front of the notary to sign.

a temp guardianship would be fine--best to have papers done with a lawyer for a few hundred bucks if you can--or see forms online and in bookstores.
